As has already been pointed out the song is Love Song. It was originally done by the Cure, but has been covered many times. More recently and most popularly by 311 for the 50 First Dates soundtrack.
Some others that covered the song include:
Anberlin, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Jack Off Jill, Voltaire, Death Cab for Cutie and Tori Amos to name a few.

The Cure sings the original version of "Love Song", which is the best in my opinion.
311 covered it and added a sort of reggae flair to it a few years ago.
