I am in my early 20's and live with my boyfriend, we have babysat his niece (4mo) about 7 or 8 times since she was born, the youngest she was when we had her was probably at 1.5 months. I was curious at what age other mothers left their child with a sitter, I love her so much and enjoy the time I get to spend with her, I just think it's a bit strange that we have her for long hours and she is so young. Not that im complaining at all! We have her for usually 4/5 to as much as 10hrs at a time.

I understand mommies need time off, just wanted to make sure this doesnt seem out of the ordinary or that something is wrong.

Thanks for your repsonses!

My husband and I leave our two kids (ages 4 years and 4 months) with my mother about every other week for a couple of hours while we go have a "date night"

We have found that for us to be the very best parents we can be we need to stay involved in our marriage. If we don't have some alone time it seems like we are more crabby with each other and with the kids. So our "date nights" are very important to us so we stay a happy well rounded family :)

I'm not sure why your boyfriend's brother and his wife leave their baby, but if it's for something along that line I would think 7-8 times in 4 months would probably be about right, but I don't know about leaving her for 10 hours at a time...but to each their own. We are planning on leaving the kids at grandma's overnight in February for our anniversary (first time since baby was born...she'll be 5.5 months old) I think occasions like this it is just fine for mom and dad to take some time off :)

Personally I never left my child with a sitter that young. We didn't start using a sitter till around age 1 or so and even then it was only a couple hours.

A lot of mothers who work have to have there kids in daycare or with a sitter as early as 4wks. My daughter was with a sitter for the first time at 2wks old because my husband and I had an appointment to go to she was with the sitter for about 4hrs.

Both of mine started sitter or daycare about 6-8 wks of age, but only when I had to work. We didn't have much time for leisure activities when they were that young. I guess some people have different opinions...........

I would never leave my baby with a sitter. Until she can talk and reprt abuse she will never be with a sitter. Her happiness is more important than my freedom.

well, you are mom's sister, so, you have priority. i bet she wouldnt leave her with the 14 y/o down the street. no, way too young. but because you are her blood, she trusts you. i watch my best friends kids, iv'e known her for all our lives. anyways they are 1 and 2. but only for a few hours max, and i have thier numbers and what not.
