As a ex- manager for them I can tell you it would depend on the membership form you signed. the older the membership the better the chances are you can be charged more. It also depends on the movie itself, vhs title are a higher charge due to the studios charging more per title to video stores. I have seen charges per movie as high as $89.00 and that did not include any other fees ( late fee, collection fees) which they tack on as well.New members (over the last 5 - 8 years) can only be charged the fair market value plus lost rental revenue.

What if I forget to bring back an in-store movie or game? Won't you charge me something at some point?
Answer Print Answer Email Answer
If you still have a movie or game seven (7) days after the due date shown on your receipt, we will convert your rental to a sale. The movie or game will be sold to you at the selling price in effect at the time of rental, which is either the retail price, or, when available, at the previously-rented selling price. In participating stores only. Some franchise stores still have Late Fees.
I think the 7 days thing is now 30 or 40, but I know they charge more than the movie costs. They tried to charge me $60 for a copy of "house of wax".

Not on purpose. I lost one that I rented for my kids and ended up finding it under one of their beds. I think I had it for 3 months. On the charge, I'm too embarrassed to go rent at Blockbuster, BUT I did return it!!!

I know that other movie rental places will charge upwards of $150. It's because they have bought the rights from the movie production company to "sell" the use of renting to viewers, so it costs more for the video rental place to "buy" a copy of the movie.
