14 people from an advisory board of the Carter Center resigned in the light of Jimmy Carter's position on Israeli/Palestinian relations, saying:

"'Israelis, through deed and public comment, have consistently spoken of a desire to live in peace and make territorial compromise to achieve this status. The Palestinian side has consistently resorted to acts of terror as a national expression and elected parties endorsing the use of terror, the rejection of territorial compromise and of Israel's right to exist. Palestinian leaders have had chances since 1947 to have their own state, including during your own presidency when they snubbed your efforts.'"

Not to be disrespectful to one who served as a President, but he has lost his grasp on reality. He is another one who cared more about being liked than doing what was right at a given moment. Former President Carter will likely be remembered as a weak President who really did very little of note in his time in office. I think he's probably a very kind, good hearted man, but never should have been elected. And yes, I did vote for him at the time. We all make mistakes.

His book is not recommended at all.

On Thursday, January 11, 2007, 14 members of the Carter Center's advisory board resigned, telling Carter in a letter “We can no longer endorse your strident and uncompromising position. This is not the Carter Center or the Jimmy Carter we came to respect and support.” Just last month Ken Stein, a fellow at the Carter Center, turned in his resignation letter in which he said that the book was "replete with factual errors, copied materials not cited, superficialities, glaring omissions and simply invented segments."

Not long ago, Israel gave up all of Gaza, making painful sacrifices for peace. The response by the Palestinians has been to launch more than 1,200 rockets into Israeli civilian areas.

Carter perhaps cares deeply about human suffering. We all want a better future for the Palestinians, but they're being held back by their failure to recognize Israel, their past peace agreements and their refusal to renounce terrorism.

If Carter wants to focus on saving lives in the Middle East, let him pay more attention to the Iranian President, who says he wants to wipe Israel off the map while he is developing nuclear weapons.

What are you talking about?

Numerous people (including myself) disagree with Carter. What is significant about this is that it is HIS people (i.e. those on the advisorary board of his own Center and some which probably consider him a friend) are protesting by resigninbg en masse.

Even before this, some significant people have protested as well. For example, Alan Dershowitz has very publicly critisized Carter (and Dershowitz is a well known liberal Democrat who supported Carter in his runs for the presidency) and keeps challeging him to a debate. So far, Carter has declined.

Yeah, it's sad, but Carter has gone senile. At least I hope so. It's hard to believe he could be so anti-American and still have full brain capacity.

Of course he was voted the worst president in US history, so maybe he's always been slightly demented.

Oh, and he started the Islamic problems back in the 70's that we're paying for now. And he caused gas prices to skyrocket as well as double-digit interest rates. Ok, so he was incompetent as well. But he has a nice smile.

As for your question, I think those 14 happen to be honest with the disagreements they have with Carter's ideology. It seems like most people consider Carter more of a misguided buffoon, but are careful not to let on in order not to hurt his feelings. It's a shame. He seems like he means well, but his socialist ideals are too extreme for people who believe in freedom.

there will be no peace until both sides treat each other like fellow humans. neither is innocent. a possible way to do that, cut off aud to israel too. we should support neither side.

edit. to blame carter for terrorists is childish. research amin al husseini. carters plans,if followed, would be good for us. if you hate/blame carter you probably know little about him.

Israel has tried various tactics to maintain peace. They have dealt coldly to respond with force and also with patience. The people that hate Israel find their hatred only to mask their jealousy of the Jewish state's posterity and self-hatred.

Appeasement has only helped negotiations so far, how much farther must it go?

It is true. Israel is a peaceful nation trying to exist in the midst of enemies bent on their destruction.

Do you remember Israelis shoving a wheelchair-bound person off a cruise ship or slaughtering Olympic athletes?

Carter is the reason we are being attacked today by the islamic fanatics. He is a pro-terrorist, a fact.

The more I learn about Jimmy Carter, the less I like him. His pro-terrorist views are widely refuted. He's like a poison now.
