Now this really works!!! I heard about it and didn't think it had a chance but being desperate, I gave it a shot. I hung 3 or 4 dryer sheets in my shed (Bounce but any brand will do) and I don't have that problem any more. I do the same thing on my porch and they no longer make nests there either.
Good luck!

Not much you can really do to keep them away, except to catch them when they come in! You can apply screening, seal up every crack and hole you possibly can, and they'll still find a tiny one you missed! Those things are persistent. They'll even get into an electric outlet! I keep a can of wasp/hornet spray handy, and zap them when I see them. Be sure to spray and then remove any nests you find, no matter the size. If you see a small one and spray it, chances are the queen will go elsewhere when she returns and finds it coated with poison. Planting moth balls around isn't a good idea, because those things are toxic and do more harm than good.

Welcome to my summer world.
I wait until sunset when they are settling down for the night or early in the morning just before sunrise and use a wasp spray product that has a narrow plastic insert for the nozzel. You spray the nest, the product foams up and that is it. They will never fly again. Purchased at Home Depot or any garden centre. Nice part is that it is localized and not floating around in your air space.
It also seems to repel new ones for a bit at first - but this is not over by a long shot. You will always get them, they like your shed and they love my yard, shed, garage, under the eaves, chicken house, etc., etc.
Bombs are not recommended.
Enjoy

Check with your local house & garden supplier, like a Home Depot or Lowes. I bet they've got some good ideas!

I'm not 100% sure but I think moth balls will work, try placing them near any tiny holes that they are flying in from outside.

Try tossing a 'No Pest Strip' in there. It worked for me. Bettor wait til after sundown though, when they are sleeping. It lasts a long time too.
