Why are so many people dumbing down their vocabulary? Do they realize when typing "dis" or "dat" and speaking like that it makes them sound uneducated and ridiculous? I can't stand it. It makes me wonder what is happening to society that they feel in order to be "cool" they have to speak like they're from the gutter and have never been to school!

My son actually thinks I am very uncool, because when I text him, I use proper words, and punctuation. That is the base of it - being cool.
We worship stupidity, and of course are encouraged to by the Government, media and industry. It makes us easier to control.

Well, i can't speak for everyone but sometimes people just want to type quick so they use a shortcut of the word so they don't have to write everything out, some are just lazy,some maybe very young, and maybe that's just the way when that person is on the web they just type like that.
and in reality they probably talk the way they might type the word or words, all in all there's many reasons why people do that you just have to be open minded and think on all angles, because that's what my mother taught me.

That bothers me too. My boyfriend is a medical school graduate. That's right, a medical doctor. He finished his residency almost 2 years ago but he talks like a rapper. It's crazy to hear him respond to a page and say "Yes, this is Dr. Smith I received a page," and then revert back to, "Yeah boss, whut up, my n.igga." Random people on the street probably think he's a thug, but he's a highly intelligent, educated black man with a medical degree. Drives me nuts that that's the only way he can still be "down" with his homeboys.

They're either in a hurry, don't care, or are tying to fit in. Less importance is placed on speaking and writing properly than in the past. I think other things like customer service are now less important as well.

I'm not really sure.
But I guess they suppose that it's "cool" & it is faster to type & more easier to spell, although almost no-one will be able to understand what they write, so I don't know what the point is.
