You can feed him 2-3 betta pellets, twice per day, so 5-6 pellets per day. You should also be giving him some meaty foods like frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms, maybe 2-3 times per week.
Basically, feed what he'll eat in about one minutes, twice per day.

I feed my beta every 3 days and he does fine. I've always heard to just feed them 2-3 times per week and I have had this fish for 2 years doing that.

If your fish is in a bowl you should feed it no more than it can eat in 3-5 seconds with nothing left over.
You should also change the water in the bowl daily with new water that has been treated with a dechlor product. Make sure the temp is the same as the bowl or SLIGHTLY warmer.
Ideally bettas require a 5 gallon tank that is heated and filtered.

I just got two new beta's yesterday. My previous one died from overfeeding. I'm looking at the container that one of my beta's came in and it says "sparingly 2-3 times a week." When I asked at the store they said about 4-6 pellets.

Generally about as much as his eye ball 5-6 days a week. If he starts getting a pot belly you're over feeding. Keep in mind he'll eat as much as you'll feed him. Over feeding is one of the 3 major mistakes novices make. Other not keeping the water clean, and low temps.

yup that pretty much explains it. 4 in the morning, 4 in the evening. take out old pellets that are in there for over a day. make sure you get some sort of betta pellets, not other type of fish food. a local petstore will be able to help you find what you need.

2-3 pellets (if that's the kind of food you get). DO NOT OVERFEED YOUR BETA! They will die! They are more likely to die from feeding them too much than from not feeding them enough. Trust me.
