Definitely, you should have anti-virus on your computer. I have had a few different ones over the years, such as Norton, AVG (which is a free download), and McAfee. I don't personally recommend Norton as it takes up too much RAM to run it. AVG worked OK. But I highly recommend McAfee. I have had it now for over 3 years and haven't had any problems at all with it, but most importantly I haven't had any viruses or Trojans, etc. Choice is up to you.

free antivirus program normally can only detect but unable to remove the infected files. else it is not strong enough and they might be a virus themselves.... if really got such a good free program... the companies like norton, trends.. can just close down.

if it is becos of cost($$) you are looking for a free software.. i recommend you to try Cyber Scrub Antivirus. it comes with a 5 years subscription fee waived, you need not renew its license yearly for 5 years with just one year cost.

AVG can be a resource hog, and if you're using Windows 2000 / XP, can mess with winsock when things get hairy. Avast is very, very good.
