sleep patterns? This little thing sleeps during the day and is awake all night long. She is not colicky or fussy, just awake! Mom is exhausted and cannot figure out what to do. Also, do you know any websites she can visit to learn more about babies? Thanks

Mom needs to sleep when the baby sleeps at this age. That means she is not going to get all of her sleep at night.

When baby wakes at night, keep things quiet and dimly lit.....very low key. Don't talk.....or if you have to, whisper. Don't turn on lights. If you need to see, maybe turn the hall light outside the room on or a nightlight or put a dimmer on the switch for the room. Make a different atmosphere than during the day.

Baby will still need to wake every couple of hours at night to feed. (About every 2 hours at this age if nursing.)

www.babycenter.com is a great website for new mom's.

It is hard to adjust a baby's sleep pattern but one thing to focus on is showing the difference btwn night and day. During the day, have the lights on, curtains open on the windows so that it is nice and bright in the room. Go about the normal waking activities and make as much noise as you usually do.
At night, keep the lights turned down or off...the baby will get up to eat but keep the lights off and only have a small nightlight on. Do not engage in any conversation during this time as it is night and quiet time.
It also might be helpful to start a bedtime routine...maybe around 7:30pm give the baby a nice, soothing, warm bath. Turn the lights down low, have some soft music on and prepare the baby for bed. When this is done, take the baby into her room and put her in her bed.
If you show the baby this routine, keep it the same day after day then the baby will learn that this is when I should be awake and this is when I should sleep. Babies love routines!!
Hope this helps!

Unfortunately that's how babies are. He will sleep when he's tired and when his body needs rest. A one month old isn't going to have the same day/night pattern as his parents because he's been in the womb for the past 9 months with no indicator of either.

He'll grow out of it in a few months. If his mom is tired why don't you help her? Assuming you are the father, let her get some sleep while you feed the baby a bottle.

Becoming a parent means you are now on their schedule. If you wanted to get more sleep you should have waited to have children. This sleep time is beneficial to his health and growth and would only be cruel and possibly damaging if you tried to keep him awake during his sleep times.

more then likely she will change sleep habits 10 more times before she is a year old. growth spurts, teething, all change sleep patterns. You just have to roll with it when they are that little and try and sleep when they sleep.

Wake him up during the day, and at night give him a warm bath.
