The idea that having sex can bring on labor is one of the oldest of the Old Wive's Tales of ways to make labor happen. However, there is no scientific evidence showing this to be true. In theory, it seems logical since semen does contain the same hormone-like chemical called prostaglandin that can be used as an aid to ripen the cervix, sometimes in preparation for an induction. I have had 4 babies born past their due dates. I tried everything anyone suggested to bring labor on and none of them worked for me. With my youngest, she was only a week late, but I had Gestational Diabetes so my doctors wanted to see if they could help labor along. I had a gel insertion of prostaglandin done to possibly aid in softening my cervix. Instead, I had a bad reaction to the gel and began having 6 minute contractions sending the baby into distress. They prepped me for pitocin but I began dialating quickly without it. She was born about 6 hours later. You can have sex throughout your pregnancy with no worries. Your cervix will likely soften naturally near your delivery time. There is no worry of your cervix softening too early due to having sex.

Yes it can that's all i have to say on this topic. I was on bed rest with my son who is now 7 months old for 12 weeks and wasn't allowed to have sex, partly for that reason but there was another issue I had which lead to bed rest. Good luck

Yes, I have heard that as well, but if you are having a normal pregnancy, it won't hurt you a bit. You can go ahead and have it right up until delivery, as long as you feel up to it.

This is a question you should ask your doctor. You are pretty much half way through. There are books out there too, which might have answers. Check on-line. Maybe WebMD.com, or someplace like that.
