Ok, women have the right to terminate a pregnancy; they have the right to have the child adopted; they have the right to leave the baby at a "safe haven" location and walk away, no questions asked. Shouldn't men have the right to legally deny parenthood as women have to physically deny it?

Susie D - I guess if I were able to decide other's choices for them, I'd be like you.

reverenceofme (is that telling?) You seem happy as long as men pay for women's choices

Bella C'mon, that's so typically feminist... equality as long as women are just a little more equal

yellowbugchicksok Yours is an argument against abortion, not whether men should have the same rights as women

One would think so... it boggles my mind that it takes two to get pregnant but only one of the partners has any say it what happens to that baby. Men should also have the right to terminate any parental rights to a child, just as a woman can.

I don't think the man should have the right to force termination, but a man should be able to void his parental rights. Why should a child have to grow up acknowledging a man who has no interest in being a dad or even a father. But at the same time I think that a man should have a say in whether or not the woman has an abortion. It may be the woman's body, but it is still a living part of the man. It takes two to make the life, it should take two to make the decision.

The only issues is that a man does not have to deal with any of the physical or emotional demands of giving birth. If the mother so choses to adopt out or leave the child at a safe haven then the father IS off the hook - If the mother aborts the father IS off the hook - if the mother decides to have and raise the child that BOTH people are there to make (in other words - man got his jollies too!) then HE as well as SHE is responsible for raising that child.

If you do not want to be responsible for paying support on a child you brought into this world then do not put your penis in places that can end up getting pregnant! (Yes some women need to close their legs more too - but only you can control where mr, happy has his next play date!)

absolutely! it's call parental rights. you go down to the court and file it. when a woman terminates her pregnancy, she gives up the responsibility of raising that child. when a woman gives up her child for adoption, along comes the paperwork of releasing parental rights (btw, the father has to sign these as well) when a woman leaves her child at a safe haven she gives up her parental rights (when a guy leaves his sperm behind he gives up his rights to make any such decisons)
yes. any man can give up his parental rights as a father. walk your rear end down to the court and do so.

Well, frankly, I don't care. Women who have had the father of their child walk away made a bad choice in choosing a boyfriend/ husband, and although one cannot always blame them for that, one cannot blame the guy for not wanting to be a parent either. Child support is legally due, but being physically "there" to raise the child you didn't want is not morally required.

How about instead of that, let's make it that if a woman DOES decide to go birth to a baby, that family court must decide if she'd be able to take care of the baby. If they decide yes, she can't put it up for adoption. If they say no, she has the choice, and men are still stuck with parental duties, anyway.

Um, they do....it's called using a condom OR having a vasectomy OR not having sex with someone unless they want to have a child. A man has a choice BEFORE he has sex.
