S stands for sadism

Sadism and Masochism. A sadist enjoys doing mean things to others. A masochist enjoys having mean things done to him or her. Commonly, we use that to express those who get a sexual charge out of binding (sadistic leanings) or being bound (masochistic leanings)--this being part and parcel of the BDSM thing, but these can be in different combinations. Dominants can be masochists (Stalone or Gibson films portray that). Dominants can also be dominant without being sadistic. Submissives can also be sadistic, which is why a dominant needs to directly supervise the orders of one submissive against another submissive. It is a mix and match thing.

Sadism (the enjoyment of inflicting pain on others)
and Masochism (the enjoyment of pain on oneself, either self inflicted or by another person)
This can be but is not limited to sexual satisfaction. Or it could also be stress relief (pulling wings off flys, picking scabs, etc)

Sadism (after the Marquis de Sade) - getting sexual pleasure out of inflicting pain on others, and Masochism - getting sexual pleasure from receiving pain. Usually referred to as "whips and chains" sex!
