I always prefer the truth, but it doesn't need to be brutal. I like the truth when it's from someone's heart.

I prefer the brutal truth except in the loss of say a loved one and whether they suffered or not then i really dont want to know

Brutal truth. It might hurt but it would feel a hell of a lot better than being lied to if you thought the person was your "friend".
