It really depends on your interpretation of "music". Honestly, I dislike most Rap and Hip Hop, but some of it is quite nice, if hard to find. You just have to look in the right places. I've never bothered, given that it really isn't my style.

Some could say Rap is degrading to music, but I won't rule it out as everyday, many people -- including my own family and friends -- tell me the bands I love and respect can't make music to save their life, and how it's simply a bunch of noise that makes their ears bleed.

It's quite good when you open your eyes and realize 50 CENT AND EMINEM DO NOT REPRESENT ALL OF RAP!

Oh, and by the way, Eminem is considered one of the best lyricists of his generation. He is a rapper. Oh so very degrading!

Isn't Emo (Recent Interpretation) degrading to music? It is the reason I turn on the radio and hear Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, Panic! At The Disco, etc.

There are a lot of great rap songs, don't judge them all on the crappy ones. Every genre of music has crappy songs and crappy artist, but they have great ones too. I think pop music is more degrading to the rest of music.

Good Hip-Hop does exist, but you won't hear it on the radio or on MTV, BET, etc. Take a listen to some old KRS-One, the Roots, Organized Konfusion, or Del tha funkee Homosapien and you'll see. KRS-One once said "beware the rapper" which tells us that the true hip-hop community doesn't like fools like Fifty-Cent or Young whouever and Lil' whatshisname.

Gimme a break - good hip hop is good music, just like any genre. Metal gave us idiots like Blackie Lawless so why don't you ask if Metal is degrading to music (not that I think it is - see above)? Could it be...racism?

Most of it is degrading to the human race.
