Does anyone have any theories as to why people talk crap? ie: bragging about something that you know they haven't got, making up stories, saying x costs this much when you know it never and so on! This really annoys me as these people must think that we are stupid and believe them when really we are secretly thinking that they are talking bull****!

They think it makes them look good and better than most people. When really, like you said, it makes them look stupid. Even if they really did have it, it still makes them look stupid b/c they are bragging over stuff that doesnt matter. Who cares how much they paid on a car, outfit, or pair of shoes. I always think to myself when I hear someone bragging like that, Yea you paid that much and I can go somewhere else, get the exact same thing for cheaper, and have more money in my pocket than you do. Then I feel better and ignore them.

I had to park the DB9 and move the Helicopter off the lawn and onto the helipad before answering this, now, what was I going to say?
One moment whilst I ask my Butler.

Oh yes, sorry, the Ferrari (which I've just got gold-plated at a cost of 2 million!) was revving a little loudly and it was hard to concentrate. I've asked Michael Schumaker to stop for a moment so its fine now.

Bragging? Making things up? They may be telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! Just because something sounds a little far-fetched doesn't mean that it isn't true!
Mind you, having said that, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean that they are NOT out to get you!

Maybe you have a point!
Hmmm

We all know the type!
All they care about is what people think of them. They want everyone to think that they are rich and doing well
This is the kind of person that runs their credit card up to the hilt to buy the latest. But can't afford the repayments and will probably have it repossessed.
Then they say they gave it back because they want a newer model
Ridiculous and a strain on the economy

wow you seem angry...take a deep breath and maybe channel your anger into sport? lol i know what you mean...what's the point? not many people are going to think less of you because you don't have whatever it is you want, but some people still lie about things like those. although i guess it depends on the situation. anyway, just ignore whoever it is that says these things to you, lashing out won't do you any good, believe me! so just sit there and take it, even if you're cursing them in your head.

ive no idea but actually knew this woman who was forever lying ,she said her son had got a claim in a very quick space of time i think he made a claim on a car accident and had the money within a week ,then she said he had went out and blown the money on clothes ,when i seen the son i asked what new had he got and of course he didnt have a clue what i was on about .
The women was in my last place of work and just told lies all the time i think she actually maybe had a problem, attention seeking or mental illness ive no idea.

It is the insecure persons way of trying to make themselves important. Not only are they insecure, they are ignorant to the fact that people realize they are full of poop. They wind up with no respect because there isn't anything they say that people will believe.

They are just trying to impress people and feel that they need to make stuff up to do it. They are usually people who need attention and like to be the center of attention all of the time. Everyone is right, it's low self-esteem.

I think it boils down to low self-esteem. They think so little of themselves that they make up lies to impress other people. Even though they know it's a lie, they try to make themselves feel better about themselves this way. That's my theory anyway.

creating a false front. If said often enough, lots of people just accept it as true. They do not care enough to check it out, So you that are wiser, just have to knash your teeth. Because if you say anything, you sound like sour grapes. I hate it with a passion.,

They do it because they're insecure about themselves. They have a lack of confidence in themselves. I always feel a bit sorry for the person if I notice someone doing it.
