if so how what type of program do i need?

My job uses Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0. It allows you to edit text, extract specific pages from the document, delete, insert and replace pages. To edit the text, use the Tools menu, then Advanced Editing, then the TouchUp Text tool.

Only if the document was scanned using OCR (optical character recognition) software, such as ReadIris.

If you don't, any text editor will only see the scan as a picture, which does not contain editable characters.

You require an OCR (optical character recofnition programme) abbey fine reader is one such software from http://www.abbyy.com/ there is a program with microsoft office called microsoft document imaging which can also be used for the purpose
