I haven't read his novels, but have read his collaberation with Terry Pratchett (Good Omens) and some of the Sandman comics, and seen Neverwhere when BBC serialised it some time ago. If these are a good representation, I'd say you might like China Mievelle, who writes mostly gothic sci fi/fantasy (Perdido Street Station and The Scar are probaby the best of these, but try King Rat, which reminded me very much of Neverwhere). Also Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy and Neal Stephenson - Snow Crash and teh Diamond Age are my favourites.

Terry Pratchett contains ideas, truly on account that he teamed with Gaiman to write down good Omens. Douglass Adams Christopher Moore Lisa Shearin is an author that i began reading lately. She's extra delusion than Gaiman, notwithstanding that is not chick lit that she writes.

Well, Gaiman speaks highly of Caitlin R. Kiernan, but I'm finding her novels "Silk" & "Threshold" to be extremely depressing. May be of interest to goths or the terminally depressed. I rather liked her stories in 'The Dreaming' DC/Vertigo's non-Gaiman continuation of Sandman.
