Sorry. I guess none of us understand the point. I don't make purchasing decisions based on payment methods, but I made payments based on purchasing decisions. Once you've made the purchasing decision, email the website and ask if they'll accept your personal check.

There are probably a few web sites that will electronically debit your account, and ship the product after the money clears... But you'll have to do some hunting.

Taking personal checks from out-of-the-area customers with no way to verify their identity is a pretty stupid business decision. In the 1990s, a number of high profile companies went under because of the debt load from bad checks.

Would you take a check from me? How would you verify I was who I said I was?

With Visa and Mastercard debit cards free with most checking accounts these days, there really is no reason to use a check except for local purchases and paying your monthly bills. Talk to your bank.

I'm an ex-cop, so I tend to be suspicious. When you ask about websites that will take a check, I start wondering about the possibility of check fraud. Merchants will be just as suspicious.
