I currently have highspeed access and home phone service through AT&T/SBC. I got rid of both cell phones about a year ago. I've heard of people getting rid of their regular home phone, and getting cell phones instead, and keeping high speed access, which is what I want to do. How do I do this? I'm not getting a very straightforward answer from AT&T - they told me I'd still have to keep my home phone to keep internet access, but I could get the minimum phone package.

Get Cable internet, or any broadband that's not tied to your phone. But be prepared to pay more if it's the only service you are buying from a vendor. Most discount if you also buy their TV, phone, etc.

This is what I'm doing now. Before we used to have cable for our internet service and we had the most basic package along with our cell phones. That got to be too expensive. Now we have DSL through AT&T/SBC and the most basic phone package and it is a whole lot cheaper.
