Soccer isn't exiting enough for Americans...the plays are slow to develop and the action is minimal. Hell, why do you think hockey and Baseball are struggling to keep their niches? Americans have too many options to be bothered with soccer

There are many reasons, I think, but the biggest is cultural. Americans did not grow up watching the sport or cheering for a favorite team and therefore did not get indoctrinated into the sport from a young age. Remember, it's only been in the past 10 years that we've had a pro league - and even that has struggled to gain a foothold.
If your average American were to watch a Revolution-FC Dallas MLS game, they likely would change the channel. I am a diehard soccer fan and often have trouble watching MLS games because it's not very good - too little skill, too little imagination.
Some Americans get into the World Cup, but then get turned off by the diving, injury-faking, and lousy refereeing.
In the past five years, we've been able to get Premiership and Champions' League games, which has helped bouy the sport, but too many Americans don't give the sport a chance.
Soccer is, however, the most-played sport at the youth level, so there is hope that the younger generations will slowly begin to erase soccer's stigma.
Soccer will likely never be as big as baseball or American football, but it certainly has its place and its popularity will likely grow in time.

I want to just make everyone aware that I AM AMERICAN before I say anything.
It almost seems as if Americans are ignorant about other things that do no concern them. Here in the US, we have football, basketball, baseball...But when it comes to the World's sport, soccer, we could care less. We love our sports, that's for sure.
Or, it could be that we love to be on top of things. We love lots of money, we love lots of attention, we loves lots of points. Maybe one reason that soccer hasn't broke ground is because you don't score A LOT points, like you do in basketball or football.
Whatever the reason, we Americans are a bit ignorant. And maybe a bit picky as well. We like certain things, and we like them to look a certain way, to entertain a certain way, to be a certain way, etc. We just for some reason cannot get into what soccer has to offer to us.
By the way, I am speaking on behalf of all those Americans who don't like soccer. I'm not sure of the reasons why certain people do not find the sport entertaining, so I just added my own theories. I just happen to LOVE soccer. I hope one day other Americans will be able to see what I'm seeing, which is the greatest sport ever.

Soccer seems to be more of a political thing in Europe. Soccer is practically the Europeans and maybe South Americans way of battling eachother. They have long standing histories and rivalries that last hundreds of years we can't even relate to.
We as Americans don't have rivalries like that. Soccer is a much more laid back and lighter sport here.
There is no pride to defend. No emotions involved. It's just an activity here.

I add my 2 cents into the boring stack. But it doesn't have to be that way. I watched some of the world cup games back when they played some in the cotton bowl. It was quite a spectical. But the game was boring. I feel it is because the world has adopted the prissy European style of play where for most of the game 3 players with the ball play keep away from one hapless defender at mid field. The defender half heartedly jogs between the keep away crew while the remaining players stand around with their hands on their hips.
Except for the rare shot on goal. The goalies could play most of the game out of a lawn chair.
I played on a club team in college and we played a completely different style. When we had the ball we pressed it forward to the other end of the field and took at shot at the goal, much like fast break basketball. Except for the goalie the entire team went forward. Usually we got off several shots at the goal before we either scored or the other team got the ball. We were aided by having several sprinters from the college track team to push the ball forward.
When the other team got the ball there was none of the stupid keep away game at mid field. We had several ex-high school football players who did not shy away from contact, to put pressure on the ball. The other teams rarely even got the ball to mid field before it was tackled away.
Don't need to change the rules just put some real men on the field and play the game hard. Not like a bunch of euroweenies prissing around in pretty uniforms.

I agree, it is the biggest sport in the world since every country is crazy about it, except for the US and Canada. Personally, I blame the Atlantic and Pacific for putting that wedge to deprive us of soccer...lol

America has it's own pastime. It's called baseball.
Canada has it's own pastime. It's called hockey.
Why don't you give Canadians a hard time?
Soccer is popular in other parts of the world because that's all they know or it's all they have.
Soccer in the US has reached it's peak and people need to understand that and move with their lives.

Americans have a tradition of football, basketball and baseball.
There are soccer leagues in some places and it seems to be increasingly popular.
