Do you believe that "everyone should win?" When you have a game in school or competition such as fund raisers do you believe that everyone should win or should more emphasis be placed on who sold/won what? I think in real grown up life there are some winners and some losers. How you get that way depends alot on YOU. Should all children be told they are winners in a competition? If so what do you think they are learning about competition? Work ethic?

Thanks

I am in no way saying to tell them, "They were bad because they didn't win" or "They should win at all costs". I think this teaches sportsmanship, which is a good thing.

No! I don't think everyone should win! What does that teach our kids about life? I think we should teach our kids that sometimes you win, but sometimes you lose. They should be taught how to be good winners as well as good losers.

I totally agree with Philyra2...kids should learn to be graceful winners and loosers...if they always "win" something no matter the performance, what have they learned? Yes, kids should be hugged and encouraged no matter how well they did or not...that is very important and the role of every parent or caretaker...but if "Little Suzie" gets a trophy even though she didn't even try the same as "Little Sally" who really put forth effort...each of these kids learned that you can slouch off and still reap rewards..kids should learn early that life is full of dissappointments and how to deal with them in a healthy way....I have seen too many kids grow up expecting life to always "give" them things..and when, as adults, they learned that it's not the case, had an almost impossible time coping...

Competition is everywhere you look...
It teaches everyone a lot, not just children, it teaches humans...
It also helps build character in an individual, where do you think that you would be without competition, or having to fight for something that you have or aspired to be?!?

Without competition there is less aspiration, especially in the case of children when they are most vulnerable to influence, and influence on their characters...

What kind of generation is raised where all children are equal and don't learn to fight?... Conflict is part of our nature and is within us all, and if we are raised learning and being taught that there is no need to fight (not in a physical sense obviously), we would be denying a very large part of us, as humanity. We were not meant, by God if you believe, or nature especially to be equals, we were made to fight, for survival in particular, to fight for basic needs, to fight for what we aspire and see.

And to deny that is just ludicrous.

i think of that we would desire to continually be coaching our little ones cooperation and not opposition. as a exchange of a competitions we would desire to continually be discover techniques that our little ones can paintings jointly for an ordinary purpose. The fundraiser element should not be a contest between little ones yet a collaboration. no remember if or not they are raising money for a class field holiday or to donate to a worth reason the clarification in the back of the fundraiser would desire to be sufficient incentive (not prizes or "prevailing").

Competiton divides people. All kids should be winners. We need to build up our youth and not tear them down.
