My 2 year old fell on hardwood flooring and landed on his lip. There was bleeding and it did swell. After two days the swelling went down and it remained red. On the third day a blister covered the portion of the lip that was hurt and later that day it opened up and started bleeding. Over the next two days when I would wipe his mouth after eating it would bleed again. On the sixth day there was no more blood and it apeared to be looking better but today, the seventh day, his lip is very purple and looks worse. Should I be worried or was this just a really hard fall? He's banged his lip (and other such body parts) but none of those bruises have lasted a week or looked worse after a week. PLEASE NO RUDE COMMENTS!

It's hard to say without looking at it in person but it's certainly possible it's infected. By way of the wound repeatedly getting (re-)opened the risk of infection is greater than if it had never reopened. Additionally, there is a large variety of bacteria and germs in the mouth already, especially in a toddler since they probably put things or their hands (that have been all over the place) in or near their mouth all the time. Please have him see the doctor if it doesn't improve very soon.

Hope your 2 year old's okay by now.
