First a little background: ipods can only play music of type mp3, acc, and ac3. An uncompressed song is in WAV format, which for a 5 minute piece can reach 40 megabytes. mp3, acc, and ac3 are all music compression formats. When you compress, you choose what bitrate you want the song to have, meaning how many bits of information per second the data should send to your ears. A high bitrate (such as 320bps) will have very clear sound, but will also be a large file. A smaller bitrate, such as 64bps, will be less clear but the file will be smaller.

The idea 'compressing a song that is already at 128bps' is irrelevant. The song is already compressed, you cannot compress it more. It does not matter what software you use, if you compress using mp3 at 128bps, every single software will give you a song of the same size. If you had something else in mind, clarify your question and ask again.

i found dBpowerAMP Music Converter the best. http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

well you can convert it to 96 kbps and you won't really feel the different. so this way you can get a smaller file
