It depends. If I never sense the monster with more than one sense at a time (perhaps I see him but "he moves with an ethereal silence" so I hear nothing), I will either wake up sooner or later or go to a psychiatrist.

If I sense the monster with more than one sense at a time (see him AND hear him, for instance), then I'll run if possible, or fight like hell if not.

The reason for the difference is that whether hallucinating (see the psychiatrist) or dreaming (wake up eventually), humans cannot physically perceive the hallcuination/dream with more than one sense at a time. The monster I for instanced did not move silently, he was an illusion so I could see him OR hear him, but not both at once. Hence the silence with which he moved: since I was hallucinating the sight of him and the psychosis seems to have demanded he move, he had to do it with silence since I could still see him. Descriptions jibbering witnesses give about ghosts/demons/aliens/etc. usually have components like that: "moved with ethereal silence" — yet that is the very thing a skeptic or other (real) investigator was expecting to hear. And the evidence of imagination rather than reality behind the event.

But... if I DID sense it two or more ways at once... then life would become fascinating as hell wouldn't it? Maybe for a short time, maybe longer, but incredibly interesting, wouldn't you say?
