U FOODS:-
Ulmus campestris, L. (syn. Ulmus glabra, Mill.) China: leaves boiled then eaten with oil and salt. Inner bark is removed, powdered, steamed and eaten. The seeds are eaten, but reportedly cause drowsiness, if consumed in excess.
Ulmus macrocarpa, Hance. Manchuria (eastern forests): fruit eaten.
Urtica dioica, L. India (Garhwal Himalayas): tender shoots cooked as vegetable.
V FOODS:-
Valerianella discoides, (Loisel. Tunisia): leaves of the young plant are eaten raw, with bread and salt; sometimes in soup but rarely in salads. The leaves are reported to have a strongly bitter taste.
Vitis quadrangularis, Wall. India (Deccan): leaves eaten.
Viola Patrinii, DC. China: shoots and leaves eaten.
