Most everyone has at least passing knowledge of the 12 Steps of AA. Those of us in the program also know of another—the 13th.

What is the 13th step? Why not come my apartment after the meeting and I’ll show you…

Newcomers need to very wary of the 13th step. Relationships are a big part of most every alcoholic/addict’s issues which is why it’s advised that new relationships be avoided for the first while.

The 13th step is a very selfish one on the part of the experienced AAer, because the goal is to “nail ‘em before the fog lifts.”

It is based on the guitar players,Billy Howerdel's heroin addiction and recovery. The first song, 'The package' is about scoring heroin. The second song 'Weak and Powerless' is about the uncontrollable nature of addictions. The 'Noose' is about impending death by overdose. The 'outsider views the addict from a vantage point of a loved one.'Gravity goes through the constant need to fight for survival against the drug's allure. There is no 13th step, one that leads to full recovery. Instead everyday is a constant struggle with drugs. I am glad to see someone else likes that album. I think it is a very good album that if you are'nt addicted to drugs or alcohol would not understand it. I hope this helps you. Also I am not saying you have to be an addict to get the album, I just think it sort of helped me.
