I think keeping separate accounts is a sign of distrust.

Why not? Is there a reason why you don't feel it's a good idea? Most married couples have joint accounts.

Yes,that way you both will know where the money is going, and you can share the billing responsibility's. Also of couples fit over money, it will stress out the one paying the bills who needs to budget. Take it on together and it will cut the stress down.
But.... I do think it is important to keep a little set aside for you, in you're own account.

Yes. Marriage is a partnership and it would be good to open a joint household account to which you contribute equally. You can use this account to pay household bills and taxes.

YES! because you are a team now. a couple...that means you share. It is no longer mine and yours. It is OURS! You don't split the bills either. You have a joint account and pay all the bills from that.

I think most married couples have joint accounts.

Make finances a whole lot easier..... I see no reason to maintain seperate accounts, beyond maybe a small one for personal whatevers....

My advice is, if you decide to have a joint account use it for your household expenses...mortgage, rent, bills etc... each of you contributes equally! Have your own private account as well!

Most people I know have both, joint and each have a private one also (don't want him to know what you got him for his birthday, etc).
The joint one is for bills, etc... more easily monitored for overdraws.

And anyone who has been thru divorce, knows there are also many other reasons... there is trust, then there is TRUST.

Sure why not so both of you have access to money to
pay the up-keep of the house and bills, however if you
want a seperate savings account there is nothing wrong
with that either.
