It's not its all political. If republicans even knew anything at all about muslims then they would know that their actions shia against sunni are not islamic at all and it is all a reaction to something.
Suicide bombing isnt a hobby.
Its a REACTION!!\

I think you are right. Just as Bush paints himself as a downhome country Christian from West Texas dispite the fact that he comes from a rich family and went to Yale, Bin Ladin paints himself as a pariah who gave up his riches to live a devout life. In reality, he is trying to transform the religion of Islam for his political gain.
Unfortunately, just as many people buy Bush's lie, many buy Bin Ladin's as well. I think the average foot soldier in Al Qaeda believes they are part of a religious war, as the above poster said. However, by using language that turns this into a class of cultures (ultimately religions) we are allowing the extremists to define the war in the light that they want to. They would have a much harder time finding terrorists to do their bidding if were able to expose Bin Ladin's secular goals to the Muslim public.
Edit: Thought you were talking about the greater war on Al Qaeda, not the Iraq situation. It's true that there has been bad blood between the sects in the past, but there was very little violence between Shi'ia and Sunni until the Iranian revolution brought Shi'ia fundamentalism to political power. Even when it's about religion, it's about politics.

The radical islamics use the Koran to justify to the masses the killing they do. When the muslims who crashed the planes into buildings on 911, they cryed out to Allah before they died. For the leaders, it is political, but for the people actually doing the fighting and being used by the government - it is a religious war.

Sunnis and Shiites have been going at it since the fight over whether Ali was the next Caliph.
It's not a religious war, however. The Sunnis are trying to survive while the Shiites are getting their revenge.
That's what this is about. The Coalition Forces are trying to get them to sing "Kum by Ya".

Wow do you have this wrong.
Shia v. Sunni is very religious. Maybe you do not know the difference, or the history behind the division. Please read:

Who said it was a religious war? Cite a source, binky.
I guess you have so little comprehension that you don't understand that in some cases, the religious is the political.
Pathetic.
