Most were raised in that type of situation and grow up not seeing how others live.
How it ever started in the first place is a tough answer to try and figure out. All I can think of , is that they have a low self-esteem and are too lazy to do the things it takes to live in a clean healthy manner.
"If you have time to lean, then you have time to clean."

I don't think, "Because they were raised that way" is a good excuse. There are plenty of people who were raised or ate junk food when they were kids, but realized that isn't right as they got older.
Many people are just lazy, gross slobs that haven't broken that cave man mentality
