I think that birth control pills have to be prescribed by a doctor, but I don't want to use my parent's health insurance because I'd feel uncomfortable with them knowing that I'm on the pill. Condoms are horrible and I can't stand using them anymore. How do I get the pill?

Start at a Planned Parenthood Clinic. Depending upon your state law you might get them, but in most cases you'll need to take your mom.

Have them counsel you on safer-sex too.

You should use a condom, if you are active, even if it is with the same boy always. The pill might be good extra insurance, but it won't stop disease. He may be very true to you, or you may think it, but if not, you are sleeping with everyone he does or has, or will. AIDS and other STD's are growing most rapidly in your age group.

Way back in the day, I told a lot of girls they were the only one, and most believed me, but it often was not true. I'm not proud of that, but I'm being truthful with you.

A boy will often not turn sex down, no matter what so... please...

Be careful!

First you may obtain any birth control without your parents consent or knowing it is your legal right. 2d Planned parenthood is an excellent source as well as your county/city health dept. You may obtain them via your family doctor/gynecologist which will be paid by health insurance. Due to federal HIPPA laws your insurance info can be kept from other parties including parents. Most doctors and pharmacies use numeric codes for identifying services. Also you may contact your family's insurance company to insure they do not disclose via billing copies or phone this info to your parents. YOU DO NOT NEED PARENTAL CONSENT, NOR CAN ANY PROVIDER INFORM YOUR PARENTS!!! If you do anything do not follow wrong advice in these posts and believe you need your parents to obtain birth control.

Also your parents do not discuss their sex lives with you and niether do other family members, it is a private matter and your choice to tell or not. No one has the right to such intimate info.

You can go to your local health department and get them for free. To tell you the truth you really need to use condoms .AIDS is very real and kids your age get it all the time not to mention all the other STD's out there those guys may look clean ,smell nice have money ,ect. but have a disease I work in a clinic and see young girls with all types of STD's because the didn't want to use a condom. It's good that you want birth control but please still use condoms.

County Health Department, Planned Parenthood...

I don't think you need consent for birth control.

Call around and ask. Your parents will never know that you made the phone calls and then at least you will have some answers.

Get a job so you can pay for the doctor visit yourself --But on the reality thing here--if you are active and you want to be on the pill than even tho you think you don't want to tell your parents you need to--you have been responsible up till now using condoms but they dont always work--You parents will understand (maybe not at first) but they would rather you to be having safe sex than getting pregnant at 16 --give them benefit of the doubt and talk to them REALLY--I wished my daughter had--I would have put her on the pill--

Go to your local health department and they can put you on birth control pills or whatever type you want and they don't charge and cannot tell your parent's. That is what i done when i was 16.
Then again just tell your mom either to put you on birth control or she will be a grandma sooner than later. (you do not need your parent's consent to go to the health dept to get BC pills)
Good luck

Most cities have a clinic where teens can go get doctor's advice and birth control confidentially. Planned Parenthood is a good source. You really should discuss it with your parents too.

Please, please talk to your Mom or Dad, pills can cause problems and they need to be aware that you are on the pill.
Also other drugs can affect the effectiveness of the pill..like anti-biotics, so your regular doctor will need to know that you are on birth control before he gives you any other medication.
Only condoms protect you from sexually transmitted disease, make sure if you decide not to use them both you and your partner are tested for any disease before you stop using a condom, and that you or your bf. don't cheat...this is YOUR only life, and herpes and aids don't have a cure!

Birth control pills are not too expensive without insurance. You may have to notify your parents that you are getting them, but if you are sexually active, it shows you are being responsible. See your doctor, and take the pills for a month. Until then you will need to use condoms when you have sex.
