David Beckham is English and therefore can't play for the US national team, even if he had an American grandparent he's already played for England. Besides, he's 31 now and the next world cup is in 3 1/2 years... would you even want him to play for you?

No, he's not eligible. You have to be an American citizen to play for the U.S. National Team. This applies for most other countries as well. You have to be eligible for citizenship in that country. Even if Beckham had American citizenship, he would still not be eligible to play for the U.S. because he has already played for England.

One thing-- he's not a citizen of my country--nope nope he's not not!!! Therefore he cannot play for my country U.S. And besides, two things: next World Cup he'll be too old (or at least he says he is gonna be) and he's already played for England! And if he would be eligible to play for U.S. he'd probably be a spy for the English team and try to take U.S. out!!!

David Beckham will still continue to play for ENGLAND & not UNITED STATES even though he will not likely to be called up for any international matches at the moment. he is joining a club in the States & not the UNITED STATES national team.

'England dropped him from theirs'. Their what? Are the U.S. and the U.K. in different worlds then?

David Beckham is English, that means in an international competition he can only play for England.

Enjoy him, he's quite cute I guess. His wife is a bit of a nutter though!!

I think by now you're aware, the answer is a resounding "No!" Only citizens of a country can play for that country's soccer team. There is an organization called FIFA (you may have heard of them) that governs this.

He's not an American citizen and for him to get a citizenship since it is not by marriage( I think it's 7 yrs w/o marriage) would take longer than 2010. Anyway, it's not because he plays in the US that he would want to become a citizen.

No he can't. We you play for a country in Football at international competition (soccer), Fifa says you must stick with that country.
