My ultimate business goal is to become CEO of a Fortune 500 company. To this date I have been in the military (discipline, character and integrity), earned an AA (business 3.67 GPA), BBA Accounting (3.83 GPA), I am currently getting my MBA (4.0 so far) and plan on testing for the CPA shortly after I am done. I thought this would atleast put me on the path. I understand these people are great at what they do, highly educated and motivated, but does luck have alot to do with it also? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

My ex-girlfriend's father was actually one, so here ya go. Keep it up with the awesome GPA. Afterwards, though it may seem like a pain, grab your doctorate's in business. This will put you above most management in terms of education. Afterwards jump into a company that you can see yoruself with for the next 20 years. Work atleast 5-10 hours of overtime every week, read up on every role in the company and learn how to do everybody elses job. Finally, though unfortunately, you must become best budds with all the existing top-dogs, whether you like them or not :)

Most jobs of this type come more from networking rather than your school experience (while this is important also) it's more about who you know and who you associate with as you work in your career.

Still getting these jobs for most is not achievable even if you focus your entire career to reach that. It's more important that you do the best job possible in whatever you do. If you are a good, hard working employee, you'll be successful.

Good luck.

Buying a lot of stocks of a certain Fortune 500 company would be a good start, and also gaining connections and expanding your network to get yourself acquainted with the system. Nowadays, it's not merely about the educational and experience-wise qualifications anymore. It's who you know and how you are willing to "kiss-***" to make your way to the top.

Honestly to make it to the top of the buisness world its just as much who you know as what you know. You may have a masters in business with a 4.0 gpa, but if you dont know, cant make contacts with the current big wigs you will only make it so far.

Unless you manage to start your own company of course.

It's ALL Luck. Otherwise, if intelligence and capability had anything to do with how businesses were run, we would choose pensioners living on a modest income to be Chief Finance Officers of these types of companies, since those people know how to manage a budget MUCH better than any ivy league type.
