Yes and no. They're still having problems finding a balance. Now, virtually the entire government of South Africa is black and crime against whites is high but white South Africans still seem to hold the majority of the country's wealth. Race issues are still ripping the country apart one way or another.

The truth is that the whites, less than a fifth of the population, still are the rich ones. There is a very small black middle class that's growing slowly. The former ghettos, the townships, are still filled with black people, and in spite of all this many whites whine and complain because they are not considered candidates for some state organisations, as under apartheid they used to be the only people to ever get into those positions.

I admire greatly the patience of the black and coloured South Africans, generally their lot has improved, but not to the extent they had hoped for before democratisation. I have friends in South Africa, and I hope for them that things will continue to improve for everybody over the next years.

Most crimes in South Africa are actually not at all racially motivated, in any country victims of burglaries are the rich in society, which happen to be the whites in SA. I heard statistics on SA radio that 90% of all violent crimes were comitted at weekends in drunken brawls, it is also a problem of the cities, like everywhere else in the world. Where my friends live (eastern Cape) people leave their doors unlocked in the rural areas....

Nope. White people are leaving the country in droves because it's turning into a giant rat hole. The economy is tanking, AIDS is rampant, and violence and rape are the order of the day. The country may have got rid of apartheid, but it's falling apart at the seams.
