When you are pregnant many women get excessive saliva production in the first trimester (which is really great since it happens at the same time as you are feeling sick anyways).

It is caused by hormones.

Get some hard candy or gum that you like...some women really like hard ginger candies because ginger is anti-nausea anyways.

It will pass...just a lovely side effect.

never heard of a "spit pregnancy" BUT
1 the tiredness is probably normal. i was so EXHAUSTED it was ridiculous!!! no matter how much i slept there was no relief the first 3 or so months. it usually gets better the 2nd trimester tho.
2 about the spitting...i know there have been many times when i've been sick with my head in the toilet feeling like i could hurl at any moment and i would spit in the toilet because i felt like if i didn't i would definately throw up. i wonder if the nausea from being pregnant and/or ur prenatal vitemins are essentially doing the same thing. ??? not sure what to recommend to help tho - maybe play around with differant prenatal nasea remedies (maybe sucking on a popcicle, sucker, or hard candy?) good luck! i hope u find something that helps. i know it seems like hell right now, but ur on an amazing journey with a beautiful ending. i promise u'll look back and it will have flown by and all been worth it!!! <3

It's called "ptyalism" - it's a common symptom in early pregnancy. It usually subsides in the second trimester.

"There may not be much else you can do about your excessive saliva, although some women report that the following measures are helpful:

• Brush your teeth and use mouthwash several times a day.

• Eat frequent, small, well-balanced meals, and avoid excessive amounts of starchy food.

• Drink plenty of water. Keep a water bottle handy and take frequent small sips.

• Suck on hard candy or chew sugarless gum. This won't make you produce less saliva, but it will make it easier for you to swallow the saliva you do produce. Avoid sour candies and gum, as they can stimulate saliva production."

i spit all the time. I have so much spit in my mouth all the time, and i like you can't always swallow it, it makes me gag. I spit out the car window in the grass like a guy. I started when i was like 6 weeks but it went away a bit now that i'm 14 weeks. But its that like almost feeling when you are gonna puke. All that spit and all. It's normal.

Pregnancy really sends your body in a tizzy. I experienced excessive saliva to some extent, but I've seen plenty of my girlfriends go through what you described. Relax- It'll probabaly pass and a new symptom will appear. Let your doc know, and keep hydrated!

best Wishes!

I too have never heard of this --but the only reason I could think of is this---that your body is currently making and recycling more liquids for the amniotic fluids and so instead of retaining the fluids as some gals do your body is getting rid of it --I am sure you are going to the bathroom more too??
