We bathed our baby once a week. However, we washed some parts (top and tail) every day. Also, it is a good idea to put some baby oil (e.g. Weleda baby oil which is excellent). You put it in the morning and in the evening and you do not need to use creams with zinc. Also make sure to put just a litte bit of oil after the poo. Put a bit of oil under the arms, then the bottom and all the folds on the body as they are very sensitive. We bathed our baby with Weleda Bath Body Cream. It contains calendula as Weleda Baby Oil and is very good for the skin. Calendula does not irritate the skin. Also the water might be to hard, so the baby cream bath is really good. We did not have problems with the irritation and we did not need to bath him more than once a week. It is just too much for the baby.

I asked the same question a while back and got many different opinions. I bath my newborn as he needs it. He gets wicked toe jam and he gets formula under his neck a lot. I find my self bathing him once every 3 days or so. I like to do it before bed he seems more relaxed and then I give him his bottle. I think that you can use your own judgment when it comes to bathing your newborn. Do it as he/she needs it and when you want to. You will not harm the baby in anyway! Good luck and congrats!

Bathing a newborn baby more than twice a week causes their skin to become dried out and flaky. They are newborns - not two year olds running outside digging in the dirt. Newborns usually only have dried milk in their neck folds and on their face, and perhaps a dirty bottom.
If their skin does become flaky, try a bath only once a week, and you might want to put on some natural lotions (Aveeno is a great brand) or some naturally derived oils, such as olive oil. The typical J&J Baby oil is derived from petroleum, which only cloggs pores.

Clean the bottom at every diaper change with wipes or a wet cloth.
Wipe the face daily.
Full bath about 1-2 times a week. Don't want to dry out that sweet, soft baby skin! (Plus, they just don't do much to get dirty when they are newborns!)

The hospital weren't particularly helpful with this one! they just said don't worry about it! Anyway my best advice is that babies do not get dirty. How can they?! They lie there and you pick them up. You wash their bottoms several times a day anyway, they have no hair to get greasy and they don't wear shoes to get smelly feet! Nor do they sweat, you can check up on that one but I'm sure that's right for the first month or so. My little one gets a sweatyhead now if she wears a hat but only since about 6 months.
I washed my baby about once a week after she was born and whenever there was an "up the back" poo, sick all over or something. She's 7 months now and she gets a bath whenever she gets dirty, she never smells and doesn't get sweaty so usually once/twice week.

I would bathe my baby every 2-3 days. I read in the Book "What to expect Baby's First Year" that if you bathe them everyday their skin will become dry. So I would bathe him every 2-3 days and in those days I didn't shower him I would just wipe with a wascloth

I think a wee bath before bedtime gets them into a nice routine but only if u dont need to bath them during the day due to sickness or an accident during a nappy change. I would also say a bath every night would help keep the chances of nappy rash down.

Had my antenatel classes a couple of weeks ago and the midwife said to top and tail every day but only to bath every other or every two days. Two much bathing dries a babies sensitive skin out. Also try to keep products two a minimum.

For the first month or so I bathed my son every 3rd day but gave him a sponge-type bath on his face and bottom every night. After that I started giving him a bath everynight, washed his hair every 3 days. Since he was 7 mths old I have washed his hair every other night. I use lavender baby wash, bath him right before bed and it really helps him to relax and also lets him know that it's time for sleep. I also rub moisterizer all over him everynight.
