To be a good liberal...
1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.
2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.
3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Iran or Chinese and North Korean communists.
4. You have to believe that there was no art before federal funding.
5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.
6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial, but being homosexual is natural.
7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.
8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th- graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

No, this wasn't a soapbox question. It's an attempt to showcase liberal views and see how much sense they make. Can any of you intelligently disbute what I've posted? Can any of you provide facts?
I have more.

Kelly is thinking. She has knowledge of who she is and what she believes and has obviously based her knowledge on research and soul searching. Kelly is not a good liberal. She is a good person and a good citizen. I don't agree with everything she believes, but I can respect her.

Okay let's take these one by one...
1. Capital punishment is appropriate when absolutely NO doubt exists. How many innocent people have been executed or imprisoned only to be later found innocent?
Abortion should be a woman's issue. In our country men and the government should have no power over what a woman does with her body!! I refuse to believe anyone regardless of political affiliation wants to promote abortion. The fact remains that it exists because just as many men as women don't want to be held up to personal responsibility.
2. On the large scale like Wal-Mart or KB&R or EXXon Mobile-Yes. Someone needs to safeguard the rights of the individuals in respect to the power of the corporations over the individuals. Yes.
3. No. I feel every law abiding citizen should own as many firearms as they want. I don't think that the United States has the right to impose law onto any country that WE are not willing to abide by. That's why so many other countries don't like the U.S.,because we don't walk our talk.
4.So you can federally fund other countries natural disasters but not federally fund social activities that many Americans feel is important in our society for it's growth.
5.It was that thinking that caused all of the pollution in our water systems after WWII. Green House Gases and the problems they cause exist. Just like other forms of pollution. Why is it so difficult to simply agree that we cannot continue to pollute the environment and not fix what we are doing wrong?
Cycle changes that you are referring to happen over LARGE periods of time like thousands of years not 50 or 100 years.
6.Homosexuality exists in every realm of species. It isn't just a human lifestyle choice.Yes for most it is a natural impulse. Why is someone physically satisfying themselves in any matter in a concensual relationship anyone elses business? People act as if homosexuals are exhibitionists who are trying to recruit everyone and endoctrinate the masses to their way of thinking. Relax people!!! That isn't the case!
7.Do you think that by ignoring Aids...it will go away?
The government already tried to do just that when it first became a global problem that's why Aids/HIV is the epidemic that it is!!!
8. Just because you and the people you choose to associate with may be good and decent people who are teaching their children about personal responsibility and safeguarding themselves and their partners in respect to sex.....doesn't mean everyone is. Society and bad parenting has reduced our public teachers to have to deal with these subjects because many people with conservative DO as I say attitudes don't deal with their children as human beings.... in their own right.... just extensions of themselves. Being a parent doesn't give you the right to impose your beliefs as a weapon to judge your children with. Besides it is being proven again and again that many of the people who hold themselves up as moral conservatives are in practice living outside what they preach. As long as no one knows it's all good!
So... do I have this right...
to be a good conservative you have to be on the surface moral....but in fact immoral and only practice what benefits you.
In fact a hypocrit?
Come on good and decent people exist in every political party.
As well as immoral and corruptable.
The job ahead is to hold politicians accountable for all they do and say.
I can agree to disagree with you. And I still like you and am interested to hear what you have to say. It is completely possible that you have a point of view I completely agree with. Some things I am conservative about. Some things I am liberal about.
Openly sharing opinions and knowledge is the only way to effectively legislate to the masses.

First off Liberal believe in change. Not always sticking to the same old traditional ways.
Nice try though. Liberals believe people have rights.
As the times change Goverment has to change.
Change is sometimes good! Remember that. Don't just believe what mommy and daddy told you to believe. Believe in your heart what is right.

No, you are way off. But then again, you're not really looking for intelligent feedback, right? Just looking for soapbox to speak your mind? You found it, do you feel better now?

BELIEF has to do with Religion.
LIBERALISM has to do with promoting freedom in society.
Believing that you "have to believe" something makes you a Conservative !!!
