without adding someone as a friend...i heard there is a way and i'd like to know

there is no way the only way is to ask to be added. the reason they are private is because they want to be and they are people who don't understand that, people like you.

If you use a search engine like Google and search for their page without going to the site sometimes it will allow you to click on a "cached" button below the result and that will take you to a snap shot of the page Google took of it some time in the past, although it may not be very up to date and the features of the page may not work. This is the only method I know of.

Uhhh if you request the person to be your friend. Then you view the profile. If you don't like the sound of them delete them from your friends list
