Yeah! I loved it! Actually seeing the play live though, is ssssoooo much better. The storyline is a little different, and I like it better that way.
In the play, the Phantom wasn't disfigured from birth, it happened in a fire from which he tried to rescue Christine's father. He promised him he would look after her as he was dying, but then he fell in love with her.
In this version, the Phantom doesn't seem like so much of a creep. I don't think so anyways.

Mine too! I absolutely worship ALW's version, movie, play, everything! The movie first got me started, and I fell in love with the Phantom played by the ever-sexy Gerry butler, and I adore Emmy Rossum's voice, even if Christine was strangle-worthy. I grew obsessed for a while in the beginning, when the movie first released. I wrote several fanfictions abot the "Phantom" world, and I even skipped school the day it came out on video to watch it! I learned everything I could about it- did you know that the special edition disk has a hidden feature on the second DVD? On the main menu, click down past the last option until the decorative piece on the border is highlighted- it's a cast and crew singalong to "The Phantom of the Opera"! It's really awful, and really funny!

The book is just as good as the movie, but in a different way. It's a horror novel, full of murder and mystery and dark secrets. Erik is a lot more demented, too. I mean, he's really crazy, but Leroux (the author) really highlights the struggle between what seems right (condemning the "monster" who murders people in the opera house) and the hidden past of torture and abandonment that Erik harbors which make him act so deranged. it's a good, sweetly torturous read.

The play on broadway in New York was also very good, now that Howard McGillan has taken over as the Phantom (Michael Crawford was terrible!). Did you know that as of January 6, 2006, it is the longest-running and most popular play on Broadway? There was a huge party celebrating the event. And a 90-minute production opened at the Venitian in Las Vegas in April, too.

In answer to your question, yes, I love the Phantom of the Opera, as do its millions of devotees around the world, for how could we ignore the sweet music of the night?

Sorry my friend, but it was rather disappointing after seeing "Phantom" live with the Broadway touring company. Maybe that's how it goes though -- have you ever read a book that they made into a movie and decide that the book was so much better? Whatever you see, hear, or read first is what you like and if something different comes along later you don't like it as well...what do you think?

wow. Which version is your favourite?
The Andrew Lloyd Webber is pretty close to the book, However.......

I love the book, you should try to find it. I love the way the 'monster' is so human and Christine and Raoul are at times annoying. You really feel sorry for the Phantom at some points then he goes all mass murderer again. you can really understand why Christine is so torn, and his stalking and manipulating of her is alot clearer.

Yes, I love that movie, I didn't want to watch it at first because I don't really like plays, but when my high school band put it on the field, I looked at it to hear the words to the songs and some of the choreography. It's one of my favorites too.

THere are several versions out there...my favorite is the 1989 version starring Robert Englund (most famous as Freddy Kruger from the Nightmare on Elm Street films) as the title character.

Love it. I personally think Gerard and Emmy's singing is better anyday than any of the Broadway singers who are famous for those roles (Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, etc).

I have only seen the play. I have played the music in high school in the symphonic band. enjoyed it thuroughly. We had one of our flute players scream at the begining of one of the songs we played in a concert. Cool!!

I have seen it and I love it. My dad was the one who got me into it when I was a little girl and I would also like to see it on performed on stage soon.
