The bride chooses the color of the dresses for all her attendants. Sometimes, the maid-of-honor's dress may be a slightly darker or lighter shade than the bridesmaids' dresses.

I just stood up as the Maid of Honor in my friends wedding and i wore the same dress as the bridesmaids, I just had a different flower arrangement. You can pretty much do whatever you want though, have her wear the same dress in a slightly different color or a different dress in the same color as the bridesmaids. It's ultimately up to the bride and what she wants!

Maid of honor's dress is to be what ever the bride wants. BUT!!!
There should be something different about the maid of honor. It could be the buttons on her dress or the a flower she wears. anything that shows she is the maid of honor . Whom you go to to handle any problems at the wedding. Same as with the best man , there must be something about his dress to make him different then the other men

the maid of honor is considered part of your bridal party that includes all bridesmaids. Typcially the maid of honor is the same dress as all the other bridesmaids. So whatever color you want them to wear. I did have one friend that had the maid of honor different than the others. But I thought it looked weird. They all wore different versions of blue starting from dark navy to light blue. Very odd.
