I have taken it before. It is a mild fertility drug. With the Clomid your odds of multiples are much less which is why most Dr try this one first. There are a few side effects but they are usually mild. The most irritating side effect I experienced with it was hot flashes.

I have taken it to conceive 3 times. I didn't have any side effects other than some irritability, but since you only take it for 5 days, it doesn't last long. My OB offered me the option of switching to Femera because I had been on Clomid for 5 months without conceiving. Femera doesn't have as many side effects as Clomid. Fortunately, I got pregnant and don't have to make the switch. But at least you know of another option. Clomid is a very common fertility drug that helps aid in ovulation. There is a small increased risk of multiple births, but only about 6%. Good luck!

Hi!
I was given Clomid, 50 mg after TTC for 3 years. (I DO ovulate on my own with a regular cycle but our RE wanted us to try this while I was waiting for laparascopy surgery, which I now do not have to have!)I have endometriosis but my husband has an excellent sperm count. I was told that the Clomid would probably not work for me. Well, I am now 9 weeks and 1 day pregnant, with fraternal twins!!! I had absolutely no side effects on the Clomid and would recommend it to anyone who is healthy. They should be monitoring you closely while you take it. They will do a blood test and internal ultrasound on Day 14 of your cycle and then another blood test on Day 21 of your cycle. You are only supposed to take Clomid for up to 6 months. They say if it hasn't worked by then, it won't work for you and you will have to move onto injectible hormones, which have more side effects and a much higher chance of multiples. I DO have 4 sets of twins in my family so don't think you will definately conceive more than one child on Clomid-it really is rare on the 50 mg dose.
If you have been trying to conceive for awhile then I think you should take the Clomid if you are ready to become pregnant. It only cost me about $30 for the month and I read that actually it DOESN'T cause an increased risk for Ovarian Cancer. Good luck, ok!

If you are not ovulating...then clomid can be all it takes to do the trick! Both my best friend and her sister are an-ovulatory (do not ovulate on own at all or very infrequently) and both have had successful pregnancies due to clomid. Her sister has 2 year old twin boys (clomid does increase the risk of fraternal twins slightly) and my best friend has a 3 year old daughter and is about 8 weeks pregnant with her second clomid baby.
Clomid is often covered by insurance whereas most other infertility treatments are not. This is because being anovulatory can be considered a medical condition...not just a infertility problem. So it is a good first place to start...especially since it is just a pill you take...very non-invasive.
My best friend did have one problem with it...she had an ovarian cyst that grew due to taking the clomid...she just had to stop and let it shrink...then she was able to resume. I don't think that it is very common though.

first off, how long have you been trying and how long were you on birth control before trying? Also how old are you? Some doctors can jump the gun and suggest many drugs but it doesnt mean they will give you a baby, they may only take away from your bank account. Conception drugs can be VERY costly and very dissapointing if they dont work. I know WAYY to many friends who had a hard time conceiving and gave up. A few months after giving up they got pregnant. I really think a lot has to do with the pressure to perform, get pregnant and make it all happen just right. this may sound like a folk remedy but I really think you and your spouse should go get drunk, enjoy yourselves and dont have any expectations of sex. If things happen, let them but having the idea on the brain all the time can make it harder for both to orgasm and simultaneous orgasm is known to help conception the best. good luck!

I don't agree with the other posters who said that your doctor may just be trying to do what is right for you. Sometimes doctors may not always know what is best. You are right to ask if this drug is good.
In the case of clomid however, this drug is used to stimulate egg production and ovulation but has been linked to miscarraiges when you do become pregnant. I have not met anyone who has conceived on this drug yet but to talk to a few women using the drug, visit www.newbabyjubilee.com and click on Community. You can browse the forum to see what other women had to say or ask them yourself.

I took clomid to get pregannt. Worked like a charm...took me 3 cycles to get pregnant the first time. You take it on day 5-9 of your cycle and your Dr sends you for a blood test to see if you ovulated. You usually start out on 50 mg (low chance of a multiple birth) if the 50 mg doesn't work then they up it to 100 mg. The higher the dose the more of a chance of a multiple birth

I just finished taking a cycle of clomid. I took 100mg on days 5-9. I started my period on January 1st, so today is the 12th day of my cycle. I'm not sure when I should ovulate, but we are having sex every other day just in case.I take my temperature every morning and chart it. The only side effect I have had is hot flashes/night sweats.

Clomid is estrogen and my doctor has recommended it to me but wanted to go through more natural methods first including blood tests for PCOS and other hormone levels - she said that because Clomid stimulates the ovaries and contains estrogen it carries the risk of later development of ovarian cancer just as anything that stimulates the ovaries would do, while the risk is significantly lower with clomid than other drugs it does exist

I have taken this drug and it didnt work for me. It is to make sure that you ovulate on the 14th day of your cycle. It gave me terrible mood swings and hot flashes. I have a friend that it worked for and she didnt have the side effects that I did. I had to end up taking pergonal and I ended up with beautiful healthy twins. Good luck and hang in there!
