Because free kicks and penalties are often important opportunities, some guys would rather sit and mope to try to draw a call or a card then get back up and start playing.

Also, unlike American football or rugby, where you tackle with the biggest and strongest parts of your body, in football you tackle with and target the much weaker (structurally) body part--the legs. There is actually more chance of injury from these collisions, even though the hits in other sports are harder in sheer force.

Some are excellent actors and it does buy time on the field for players to "get it together"...........Some really do get hurt.....When a player is being carted off that ain't an Academy Award winning performance, it's for real...........And there are a few that ARE just plain wimpy crybabies........But even the wimps are making the big bucks..........CAT

To try and get the oposition players yellow carded or sent off.

Once a player has a yellow card, he cannot chance making a wreckless tackle, or he will be off.
