Yes. His real name was John Chapman, which I remembered from elementary school, but I did a quick search and found an article in Wikipedia. The link is below. Hope this helps!

Yes, he was a real person, born John Chapman 1774-1845. As an adult he was a famed orchardist, who was best known for planting apple trees throughout mid western states, and thus, nicknamed Johnny Appleseed.

Yes I have seen some of the apple trees he planted on an island in the middle of Orchard Lake, Michigan. (APPLE ISLAND)
