Windows starts and the only screen I can get in to asks for my name and password and it usually has the domain - the domain is now missing, I cannot get into the start menu or any other menu

When the computer boots up it goes straight to opening windows. YOu have to press CTRL, ALT, Delete and then a screen appears asking for your userid, password and there is usually a domain at the bottom of this log on. This is missing so now when I enter my id and password I just get an error message asking me to make sure my username and domain are correct. I cannot get past this screen. If I open in safemode I still get this problem

If you can't get past the log in menu, reboot your system.
Keep pressing "F2" Till a menu appears, and choose to reboot in "Safe Mode".
This will allow you to reach your desktop so you can sort the stuff out.

Edit: Can you try and explain the problem a bit more for me please ?
Is it the windows log-in scren you are stuck at ?

Better suggestion. Log into the computer locally (instead of logging into the domain), go to Start, Control Panel, System, Computer Name, and join the domain using privileged domain credentials. If you're at your job, then you will most likely need someone from the IT department to help you with this (unless you're in the IT department).

Two suggestions; either re-enter the domain name or use System Restore to get back to a position when loggin last worked.

if it is XP or 2000 you may have to click on the Options button on the log in window to show the domain.

Make sure you are stil physically on the network. Reattach to the domain through properties of "my computer"

Control Panel > System > Computer Name > Network ID.

Follow the prompts. Next time you restart, you will be prompted.
