Can u solve an inequality? 5x+8 > 7x+8

5X + 8 > 7x + 8
Subtract 8 from each side to get
5X > 7X

Something tells me you may have copied this down wrong, since the answer to this is "any negative number." The answer doesn't really make much sense.

5x>7x <=>
-2x>0 <=>
2x<0 <=>
x<0

Yes, when dealing with greater/less thans, to solve them, replace with an equal sign.

So now you have 5x+8 = 7x+8

Now you want to have the x's isolated, so subtract the 5x from both sides...

Now it's 8 = 2x+8


Subtract the 8 from both sides, so now you have

0 = 2x, divide the 2, making it

0 = x

Now replace back the sign, but since we divided, its now a less than sign

0 < x

x is anything less than 0!! All the negatives!!!

Not difficult. First subtract 8 from both sides to get
5x > 7x
Now subtract 5x from both sides:
0 > 2x
Reverse the inequality: 2x < 0.
Divide by 2: x < 0.

the answer is any negative number.

well if you subtract 8 from both sides, then 5x is greater then 7x..................does not make any sense. Never had a problem like that before
