I live in the area it's happening in and it's pretty much bad for the community all around:
The woman has set back victim rights about 50 years in this area, since no victim is going to come forward now, since she'll be accused of being a liar and a prostitute "like the woman in the Duke case" (the woman was a stripper actually)
Some of the Duke professors wanted the university to follow the normal steps that the college has set up for situations like this, but the University wanted to quiet things down fast, so first they kicked the students out, then they skipped the procedures again and reinstated the men involved..so now these professors are getting hate mail and being tried in the press, blogs, etc (hate mail: racial slurs and if female, told they are stupid *itches) The upshot? If things get messy, Duke officials panic...and the professors are left holding the bag if they want procedures followed (the professors involved didn't say the students were guilty or not guilty, but that is what the public is implying) and the students and community are left wondering: Were these kids caught up in a party gone bad? or Are these some bad apples that are going to now have a free reign to do whatever they want? or is it somewhere in between?
The local district attorney wanted to make a name for himself and it sounds like he tried to get some evidence (dna) withheld..so he is being investigated (which he should be); but at the expense of the people involved in the case..
The guys are getting a slap on the back for being "good ole boys" since they were just having a good ole time with strippers in their frat house..and they are getting the sympathy for being attacked for their little party...these same guys are not exactly angels..but we'll never know what happened now...
In the end, the female accuser will fade away without press attention, the guys will graduate and do whatever they like, some of the professors will quit after getting sick of the hypocrisy or hate mail, the district attorney will get a slap on the hand, and women victims in the area will be silenced or vilified.
No one wins.

Case dismissed. Nifong fired. Lawsuit by the accused based on false accusations by Nifong, will settle out of court for a hell of alot of $$$. Accuser will also sue and get money.

The guys who invited those strippers to their party now know that if you let mangy dogs into your house, you'll get fleas. They'll be acquited of all charges and she'll be shown for the lying ho that she is and as I said, hopefully these guys will pick better "company" in the future.
