I just found out I was pregnant three days ago and I called to schedule my prenantal appointment, but when I told her that doctor that delivered me before, she told me she no longer does ob. And that the only person they had there was a male. I wish I could have the same doctor, I would feel a heck of a lot more comfortable with a female then a male. Should I just deal with it that she is gone and just schedule with the male or should I call around which may mean a longer drive to find a female? I don't know how are male doctors for obs anyone have experiences?

If it were me and I had to start over with doctors or gyn's. I would seek a female also. Dont settle for one just because they are in the same office. Look around.

If finding a female OB will require you to drive long, I suggest against it. When you are late in your pregnancy, do you really want to drive very long to go to your doctor's appointments?
But if you really don't want to have a male, then I guess it's up to you.

As far as male doctors, it is a matter of comfort, similar to having a female doctor. You may be able to have a female doctor and not feel at ease with her.

I have a male OB/GYN. I actually came to him in the middle of my pregnancy with my first child, as I moved. I needed to see a doctor right away because a certain test had to be done right away in a specific window of time. My first impression was that he was distant. So I decided to finish my pregnancy with him and look for another one after giving birth. But surprisingly, he "warmed" up to me after I gave birth. And while in the hospital before delivery, a lot of nurses told me that he was a good doctor and always calm. So those 2 things made me stay with him, and I'm glad. I'm not 13 weeks pregnant with twins, and I can definitely tell a difference in him... he is now friendlier and act more familiar towards me.

My ob/gyn and RE are both males and I just feel more comfortable that way. You could always schedule with the male and if you really just feel too uncomfortable after the first visit find a female.

You can try and find out where she is practicing now, I have never had a female ob/gyn or any other type doctor, And I feel 100 % comfortable , but every one is different.

I am the opposite. Only comfortable with male docs. Try to find someone you are comfortable with. Maybe your old doc can recommend someone.
