I only have a limited networking knowledge so bear with me here. this may be a stupid question...

My broadband comes into my basement where I have my primary computer that I use all the time and I want to hook my other two computers (which are next to eachother and upstairs) up to the internet. I bought a wireless router and had trouble getting a reliable signal upstairs (I assume because of the concrete and pipes) so I ran a cable through the wall to where my other computers are. I now have that cable plugged into one of the computers and it works fine, but I want both of them hooked up. Is there any reason why I can't just put a switch upstairs and run cables to each computer? Here's a drawing of how I want the network to look...

Yes, that will work very nicely. That's a standard network configuration, by the way. See, you know more than you though you did! ;)

That will work fine as long as the router is downstairs and the switch is upstairs. See you do know about networking
