It IS THE alternator not being charged correctly. BUT, you say you have a whistle noise. 10 times out of 10, this means your fan belt is not at the correct tension! It is either strectched or the tensioning has slackened.
Replace this first, at the cost of approx. £10-£15, to see if this cures it. To replace an alternator will cost £90 plus!
Hope this helps.

It sounds like the battery if ur lights are not very bright on tick over and when you rev up the lights get brighter. Get your battery tested free at any tyre and exhaust before you start splashing out.
If your lights are working correctly on tick over and get brighter as you rev up then get the battery and alternator checked asap otherwise the alternator may cook the battery.
The whistle nose could be the alternator working under a very heavy load.

Start at the easy end first, its the cheapest.

The regulator on your alternator is not working correctly, causing spikes in voltage as the engine turns faster. I do not know if Peugeot uses an internal or external regulator, but if it is internal, you will likely have to replace the whole alternator.

Could be alternator or battery. However, the lights getting slightly brighter when the engine is revved is actually perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

The alternator may be okay its probably just the regulator. Do you get a battery warning light on in the car?

The problem is most probably you alternator is duff or the alternator belt wants adjusting. A slack belt can cause the whistling noise.

whistling noise.

Your alternator or battery, or both, are acting up.
Where is the whistle noise coming from? If it is from directly under the dash its probably the alternator plate, which is driven by the flywheel..

Its defiantly your alternator. Sounds like now your alternator is shot and your vehicle is running off the battery, thus the light problem. When you change your alternator, its best to just change the battery too.
