I'm looking at alot of mock-draft (yes, people's opinions, but run w/me here) and many are thinking that the Vikes will take a WR (Johnson or Jarrett most likely) OR if a top QB drops that low --a QB. They just drafted T-Jack in hopes of him being a franchise QB ---has anyone with that designation ever been replaced that fast?
Also, I don't think he's going to fail this next year (please no comments like "he sucks, it was a mistake drafting him that high" etc --just constructive ones). IMO he was just a rookie put in a bad situation. They couldn't run (despite Taylor's decent #s) because the opp. D knew their passing sucked, and if you watched the Packers game you'd have seen Williamson was droping a SH!T load of passes ----a QB can get the ball there but the WR has to make the catch. I think taking another QB would be very premature. They need to heal their ailing WR core (Childress cut 2 of our best ones, so he needs to find us some more).

Garcia does make sense, but Eagles might keep him longer if Eagles win this weekend (hell, even they don't --he rallied them there).
I'd put need at
1)WR (horrible!) (/a TE later, or through FA)
2) S/LB (they honestly have good talent in the secondary, but it's either lack of "sync" or just players are run>coverage guys --we got a LB last year, but all our LBs practically are run-stopping guys-----we need anything to stop the pass)
3) DE (we can stop the run for now, and Kevin Williams gets decent pressure for a DT)
I stand by WR first (despite hearing wispers that Childress doens't believe in taking one 1st) because we need a play-maker. For the other positions we really could settle for reliablity (plus good defenders can be found in later round --look at Mark Anderson 12 sacks w/o a start and from the 5th round)

In response to this question honestly i think everybody needs to give T-Jack some time. From what i saw he could develop to be a very good QB in the NFL. Yeah he got thrown into a sappy situation but he nearly held them into the playoffs by just a couple wins. Give TJack another year before you wanna get rid of him....and ur right childress screwed u guys in the WR department and i think that they need to draft a WR #1 and #2 to pair up with willamson. Second of all in response to the UF vs. Raiders question i must say im impressed to see somebody with some actual knowlege and love for the game. Your a raider hater but yet at the same time you know who and what their ONLY weapons are haha......just wanted to say thanx for input cuz its not very often people actually know what they are talking about. GO RAIDERS!

I really don’t see the Vikings drafting a QB this year and it would be a huge mistake if they did. Jackson showed a lot of promise in the preseason this year, and even though he didn’t do so hot in the regular season when called upon, Childress obviously has enough respect and faith in him to put Jackson over Johnson with two games left in the season. Not everyone can step into a QB position and be a start like Big Ben did for the Steelers. Hell even Carson Palmer waited behind Kitna for a few years before getting his start, and I'm sure the Vikings where hoping that Jackson would get a few years to build himself up, and then be a star. So the Vikings know they have a project on their hands with Jackson, and I just don’t see them taking a QB after drafting one less then a year ago.
I know that Minnesota had the worse pass defense in the league this year, but you cant blame that only on the secondary. The lack of a pass rush really made it tough for them this year, and I think some work at DE will fix that, and it will be easier to get that done in free agency then in the draft. Their DT are solid with one of the Williams going to the pro bowl, and I don’t think they need any help there. I will agree that the lack of a pass rush by the LB hurt them, but they have Greenway coming back from injury to play next year and he could either step up if they let Harris go, or provide a much needed relief for the guys doing all the tackling. They addressed a problem at CB last year with Griffin, and he should only get better as time goes on with Smoot backing him up. I think it would be a mistake to take another CB and have two starting CB's with less then two years experience between them.
So for me that leaves a big time WR like Johnson, Jarrett, Ginn, Rice. Either one would be good but I doubt Johnson will fall to 7. Travis Taylor (WR) led the Vikings in catches last year, followed by Moore (RB), Wiggins (TE), and Chester Taylor (RB). So the need for a big time WR is there, and extremely evident when 4 TD's and 600 rec yards led the Vikings last year. So if Johnson falls to no. 7 I expect the Vikings to take him without hesitation, but if he's gone by then (and he'll probably be taken by Tampa) Expect the Vikings to take a stand out WR in the Combine or a CB like Leon Hall or DE like Jamaal Anderson

Jackson isn't a bad QB.. hes young and REALLY DID get screwed starting that late in the season... as for BJ... HAHA RETIRE OLD MAN you have nothing here in MN that can help us! i know you have great awareness and can throw a nice ball from time to time, but none of the MN WR's can catch for a damn... if you want to stay here... you need to learn to scramble
I agree that the Vikes need someone to throw the ball too, Taylor isn't a great RB but he can put up the numbers until the opposing D figures out that the only thing the vikings can do is run the ball over and over for First Downs...
Our D isn't bad! we can stop the run and we have several really good DBs (sharper is the bomb)!!! so a defensive pick wouldn't really be worth it unless we go first round.. which wouldn't be very smart considering the Vikes cant score often enough to keep a good game going...
PLEASE PLEASE CHILDRESS GET SOME OFFENSIVE PICKS AND GET THE VIKINGS SCORING LIKE WE WERE WHEN WE HAD MOSS AND DUANTE...
haha will never happen again but i can wish cant i?!?!!?

I would be dissapointed to see the vikes draft a QB. I think they could possibly draft a WR in the first, but i hope not. I hope they look to improve either their O-line of their CB or Safties.
As for a QB they might take a run at Garcia, who only has a one year contract with PHilly. Childress was the eagles O-Co-ordinator b4 he came to min. I am sure you see he has been doing well. Another possibility is that Carr's contract is up at the end of this year as well.

The first thing they need is a new coach, but that is besides the point. They need a wide reciever and a defensive end. They don't need a quarterback in the draft because Jackson is going to be the starter and they can get a veteren off of free agency to back up. Jackson will be better next year with a lot of practice over the summer. The biggest thing in his college career was his accuracy. If he learns how to run the offense he is athletic enough to make up for some mistakes.

Not sold on T-Jack...yes he's a rookie but seeing the few games he started this year he was not impressive in any area. Vikes will keep Johnson as a realiable (and cheap veteran). He may even be the starter on opening day next year. I see the Vikes going after WRs first and foremost in the draft. Personally don;t see a QB I would want to draft in the first round (especially not Bradey Quinn).

They need help on the defensive line and secondary. However, I see them taking a WR if available. Plus, if one of the QBs fall to them, I see them trading to a team that wants one of them because they really do believe that T-Jack is the future. I'd rate their needs as follows: 1)Defensive End - No pass rush this year from anyone 2)Secondary-I dont care where the guy plays, he's better than what we got 3)WR-Troy Williamson-Nuff Said

You know, Im not a vikings fan so my thoughts may not count to you lol, but from what i saw and heard on sportscenter, i wouldnt really want either of hem on my team...however that said, I agree with you that rookies need a couple years chance to develop, Idk who the RB there is right now, but they should make sure they have a top notch one, because he can make the QB's life so much easier. Also they should make sure they have a real good tight end, I was always taught that a dependable TE is a rookie QB best friend
