The biggest threat to marriage is a group of people who wish to define marriage in terms which exclude anyone from entering the

Both of these are a threat to the institution of marriage and totally against the Bible and God's plan for marriage but however it is peoples choice who they want to marry and live with.

How about incest?

Why not? Let's say they PROMISE not to have kids. And they LOVE each other. Is incestuous marriage OK?

After all, the government cannot legislate morality, and the law discriminates against the rights of people to marry whomever they want.

How about polygamy? If I want to marry 37 women in a commune somewhere and get tax benefits for it, why can't I? This is America, where anyone can do whatever they want.

I want to marry a 14 year old girl. This is legal in other nations. And by golly, the government has no right to dictate whom I can marry. She would even consent! You can't take away her right to marry whom she wants just because she is a minor! That's unconstitutional! You can't legislate morality!

You know what else? I should be able to buy all the porn, drugs, and guns I want, because the government has NO RIGHT to legislate morality!

"but they aren't the same..."

No right to legislate morality means no right to legislate morality. Porn, guns, and drugs don't hurt anyone either. Therefore, the government has no right to regulate it. If everything is consentual, there is no right to legislate it, apparently.

By the way, the government already regulates marriage by law. And provides tax benefits for it. And legislates who can marry whom.

I keep saying "Lawyers" are the biggest threat to marriage because they break it down to a legal contract.

Shouldn't marriage be more than a contract?

Saint Paul recommended people not marry at all because it simply confuses people and steers them away from "God" (but better to marry than to burn...). I do not view marriage as a holy institution anyway. It was something invented by men to prove ownership over their women and children; later, for the money grubbing church, and later...taxes. I say don't marry and have what some might consider anarchy and little illegitimate children. Jump over a broom or hand-fast, or..?
